I'm sure everyone has heard about bed bugs, however you may not know what they look like, how they can infect your residence or business, and how to eliminate them!
Well, let's start with what they are and how they can be identified. The scientific name is 'Cimex lectularius' for these pesky bugs. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Agriculture (USDA) view these bloodthirsty bugs as a public health pest. Although they are a public health pest, these aggravating critters are not known to transmit disease, however some individuals have had an allergic reaction.
This does not suggest you can just ignore bed bugs or not take the problem seriously. They can create other public health problems so it is critically important to prevent and control these pests.
There has been a greater bed bug problem in the United States in recent years. Experts attribute the increased problem to more traveling, lack of public education, bed bugs becoming resistant to chemicals and inadequate control methods.
